1. Who is responsible

The controller responsible for processing personal data on this website under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

2. What we collect and why

If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address, the fact that you gave consent, and the date and time of your signup. We use this only to send you the Path to Science newsletter. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). We keep your data until you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent, after which it is deleted.

Giving your email address is voluntary. If you do not give it, the only consequence is that you will not receive the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing hello@pathtoscience.org; every newsletter we send will also include an unsubscribe link.

Server logs

When you visit the site, Lovable, our hosting and app platform provider, processes technical data such as your IP address, browser user agent and the time of the request. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure and running. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The hosting provider keeps these logs for a limited period set by its own retention rules and may use them to produce aggregated visit statistics. We do not use these statistics to identify individual visitors.

Cookies and browser storage

Your light or dark theme preference is saved in your browser's local storage under the key pts-theme. It is used to remember the appearance you prefer and is not sent to us. You can remove it by clearing this site's browser storage.

The site has no user accounts and stores no login data in your browser. The site sets no cookies of its own and does not use session storage. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary technical cookies to deliver the site securely. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

3. What we do not do

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools, we do not build profiles of visitors, and no automated decision-making takes place. Fonts are served from our own hosting, not from third-party font services.

4. Processors and international transfers

Our processor is Lovable (hosting and app platform), which uses Supabase as a sub-processor for the database (Lovable Cloud). No separate newsletter email-sending service is currently used.

Subscriber data is stored by Supabase, via Lovable Cloud, in the United States, in the US West (Oregon) region (us-west-2), outside the EU/EEA. The transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified and the transfer is eligible, and/or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses in the processors' data processing agreements. Hosting data may also be processed outside the EU/EEA under these safeguards.

5. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

access the personal data we hold about you;
have inaccurate data rectified;
have your data erased;
restrict processing;
receive your data in a portable format (data portability);
object to processing based on legitimate interest;
withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

6. Complaints

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Denmark this is Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.dk). You can also contact the authority in the EU country where you live or work.
